Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium offers free services to improve the local workforce. All services are free. Area employers can take advantage of free online job postings, on-the-job training wage reimbursement*, skilled trade training fund awards*, interview space, career fair hosting, qualified applicant referrals, up-to-date info on labor market information, and more. *State/federal employment programs subject to availability/eligibility.
NO-COST and LOW-COST ASSISTANCE FOR SMALL BUSINESS
The Michigan Small Business Development Center (SBDC) offers no-cost/low-cost assistance in everything from writing a business plan, to finding ways to finance your startup, to expanding your business into international markets. SBDC enhances Michigan’s economic well-being by providing counseling, training, secondary market research for new ventures, existing small businesses and advanced technology companies. With offices statewide, the SBDC positively impacts the economy by strengthening existing companies, creating new jobs, retaining existing jobs, and assisting companies in defining their path to success.
In March 2014 the Presque Isle County Board of Commissioner’s teamed up with Target Alpena and Alpena Chamber of Commerce to bring a regional forum to our county. The County Board of Commissioners continue to work with the local EDC/CDC Board towards growth in our community and are able to have those needs met and served with the help of our partners at the Alpena Chamber.
NORTHERN LAKES ECONOMIC ALLIANCE (Cheboygan County)
The Northern Lakes Economic Alliance is a non-profit economic development partnership providing resources to create and retain quality jobs in Antrim, Charlevoix, Cheboygan and Emmet Counties. The NLEA works directly with local units of government on infrastructure projects, which facilitates local company growth and expansion and assists many local companies on a wide range of issues that helps retain existing jobs and create new jobs. We pro-actively approach economic development as a “team sport” and work hard to strengthen partner relationships, network public and private sectors, and work collaboratively to address economic development challenges and opportunities in our area.
STRAITS E-CYCLING RECYCLES BUSINESS E-WASTE
Got an old laptop, computer monitor, cellphone, PC, server, printer, etc? E-CYCLE IT! Straits E-Cycling, a new tenant at the Industrial Arts Institute, now offers area businesses a place to dispose of their old electronic items safely, securely and responsibly! With Straits E-Cycling, unwanted electronics are either reused/repurposed or processed and separated into raw materials. This process successfully diverts products from landfills and incinerators and repurposes them toward the manufacture of new products.
